Change of Name

Throughout our 146-year history, we have been known by several names including the General Baptist Field Naturalist Society, The Bug Club, The Muck and Flea Club and latterly the Bacup Natural History Society, our charitable name. To our members and friends and throughout the town we are affectionately known as the “NAT”.

In an effort to modernise our organisation, we have recently taken the decision to change our name from Bacup Natural History Society to a simpler more recognisable Bacup Museum.

We feel the name reflects where we are today in 2024.

Please note: our charitable name will remain Bacup Natural History Society.
