Happy New Year

It may very well be that 2022 will begin with some uncertainty as Covid continues to raise its ugly infectious head. But regardless it cannot dampen our enthusiasm to continue to bring you a brighter, warmer, and more welcoming experience of visiting us at the Bacup Nat. We have some exciting events planned for the future. These include finally getting Yesterday’s Bacup Family History evening up and running, a kids history club, and children's specialist birthday parties such as Fossil Fest, Sea Shell Surprise, and Buggy Birthdays.
All the details for the above will be published at the time on our brand new website which we will launch soon.
We also say a huge thank you to all our members who not only support us financially but who have been so supportive over the last few months waiting for us to carry out the refurbishments.

As with all businesses and charities facing an uncertain start to 2022 due to Covid, we need our supporters more than ever to ensure our continued survival and your donations and support really do make a difference. Your donations ensure we can care for our collections, run exhibitions and events, and provide school visits and family activities. Although we have previously applied and been successful in receiving small grants from the Bacup and Stacksteads Community Forum, we receive no regular funding from Rossendale Borough Council or Lancashire County Council; and although we have previously applied for one off project funding from local and national grant-giving bodies such as the National Lottery Heritage Fund this has not been possible over the past 22+months.

By supporting us through a one-off donation, regular giving through one of our schemes, or by becoming a sponsor or volunteer, you will help to secure the future of this eclectic and unique Bacup treasure.

If you feel you are able to donate at this time then we would very much appreciate your support. If you wish to donate via cheque or bank transfer, or if you would like to talk about supporting the museum by setting up a regular payment, please contact either myself or our Treasurer who will be happy to help.

On a more solemn note the month of December saw the sad passing of Albert Marston who was our oldest and one of our longest members and John Challinor who not only supported us by his membership but very kindly donated the furniture we now have in our newly refurbished resource area.
We also remember fondly our friend Peter Fisher, whose kindness in providing the funding for the scanning of our Bacup Times newspaper archive will mean that not only Bacup residents but also Bacupians all over the world will be able to view the newspapers online through https://www.rossendalenewspaperarchive.co.uk/.

In conclusion, it's been a difficult and trying past two years, but due to the changes we have made we look forward to better times in 2022, and we wish you all a very Happy New Year
